Reading Experience: Enta Habibi by Reetwika Bannerjee

“Enta Habibi” is a beautiful book written by Reetwika Bannerjee. It compiles five beautiful stories which depict different shades and forms of love. There is a story which tells about vengeful love and another one narrates betrayal in love. Then, there is this story which talks about immoral love. Ms. Banerjee has entwined the theme of her stories with Colour Wheel Theory of Love proposed by John Lee. She juxtaposes the colours Blue, Red, Black, Grey and Pink which depict different forms of romance as in – Emerging Love, Failure in Love, Betrayals in Love, Immoral Love and Sweet and Sour Love via the stories “Man of the Tournament”, “Miles Apart”, “Haunted Refuge at Itachuna Royal Palace”, “Two Onions and A Skull” and “Love Just Happened” respectively.

“Enta Habibi” is attractive not only for its catchy title but also for the content. Ms. Banerjee has a quintessential sense of narration. One cannot help falling for her vivid details and lucid narrative. She actually paints a picture with words. After long, I got to read such a delightful narrative. Statement-crafting is her prowess which includes Dialogues also. “Man of the Tournament” is the best example.

My personal favourites of the book are “Miles Apart” and “Love Just Happened”. These stories directly touch the heart-strings. It is really appreciative that Ms. Banerjee fetched two beautiful stories from everyday happenings of any given person. And she deserves applause for this. However, I felt that on the front of story development, Ms. Banerjee is yet to give her best. “Man of the Tournament” and “Haunted Refuge…” had a lot of scope and they could actually become novelette given their powerful content.

“Two Onions and A Skull” represent Ms. Banerjee’s powerful concept creation skills. When I read the story, my instant expression was “Wow! What a thriller!” I request Ms. Banerjee to work on an out and out thriller. If she can create magic with a thriller short story, she can certainly do wonders on a larger frame.

“Enta Habibi” is a delightful read by Ms. Reetwika Banerjee. She is a promising writer. You read her once and then, always look forward to read more of her writing and that is the addictive power of her pen. I wish her all the very best for her future and look forward to read an out and out thriller and a selective romance from her.
Good luck, Reetwika!
